ARPC Club News for November 2009

Meeting Date:  There is no Club meeting in November or December 2009 or in January 2010.  The next even-numbered month meeting will be in our usual spot, the back room at Dyer’s BBQ Restaurant on Georgia @ I-40, on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 7 pm.  Those members wishing to dine are invited to do so from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Donations or Dumping?:   There’s been some dumping of cardboard ( and other stuff) at the Club and it’s created a mess that someone has to clean up.  If you wish to leave cardboard scraps for use as pistol targets, you must cut them to a useable size (20-24” wide) and PUT THEM IN A STORAGE BUILDING OR BOXCAR.  Leaving sheet cardboard outside is simply littering and will be considered as such.  None of the rifle ranges need cardboard; thanks anyway.  Before you drop anything else off, please check with the appropriate Division Director before you do it.  Some donations can be useful; others are just trash which needs to be hauled off.

Guests:  Tis the season for sighting-in.  Members are reminded they are responsible for briefing their guests on the Club rules prior to shooting and for monitoring their guest’s actions while they shoot.  If you’re right-handed and shooting on the Benchrest Range, set your guest(s) up to your right so you can keep an eye on them.

Indoor Range Smallbore Practice:  The Indoor Range is open for adult smallbore (22 long rifle) rifle practice on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM.  In addition to a Smallbore Rifle League shooting NRA three-position, open practice at 50 feet or 25 yards is permitted at (paper) targets of your choosing.  It’s a good time to sharpen 22 silhouette skills, shoot the AQT or practice what you wish.  Contact Doug Wall about the Smallbore League and Paul Seelye about everything else.

Outdoor 22 long rifle Rifle practice:  Rifles chambered for the 22 long rifle cartridge may be used on the Benchrest Range, the Smallbore Prone Range, and both Action Pistol Ranges.  Of these, the Action Pistol Ranges provide the most flexibility: you can shoot using any position (standing, kneeling, sitting, or prone) from any distance (15 yards max in Pit No. 1, 30 yards in Pit No. 2).  Because of this flexibility, the Action Pistol Ranges are a great place to teach a child to shoot.  Remember: paper targets only!  Also, no rifles (in any caliber) are permitted on the National Match Bullseye Pistol Range.

Club Projects:  none

Membership Slots Open:  The Club now has 370 members.  There are 5 open membership slots.

Since we are close to our membership cap, it is suggested that Membership Applications be mailed to the Club as soon as they are filled out.  Membership Applications will be processed, and members inducted, in the order the Applications were received.  At the rate we are gaining new members, it is very probable the available slots will be filled during the February meeting.  If you’re thinking of sponsoring someone for membership, get that Application in as soon as you can.
